A free coding agent that actually edits your code
Htvag Agent has a free plan that is a complete AI coding agent — it edits real files on your machine, runs your shell, and executes your build and test suite. You get 5 credits a day, up to 20 by watching ads in the app, with no credit card and no trial countdown. Nothing about the agent is feature-limited; only the daily throughput is.

What the free plan includes
Most "free" AI coding tools give you autocomplete and reserve the agent for a paid tier. This is the whole agent, capped on volume rather than capability.
Real file edits
Precise string edits on your actual files, not a diff pasted into a chat window for you to apply.
A persistent shell
It runs your install, build and test commands, and cd and exported variables survive between them.
Read, glob and grep
The same navigation primitives a human engineer uses to find things in an unfamiliar repository.
The completion gate
Open todos or unverified edits push the agent to keep going instead of handing half-finished work back.
Live streaming
Reasoning, tool calls and diffs appear as they happen. You watch the work, not a spinner.
Local execution
Your source stays on your machine on every plan, free included. There is no repository upload step.
Where the free plan stops
Stated plainly, because finding out mid-task is worse than reading it here.
Daily volume
5 credits reset at 00:00 UTC, plus up to 15 earned from ads. Heavy multi-file days will exhaust it.
Ads in the app
The free tier is ad-funded. Every paid tier removes ads entirely.
Shorter sessions
Context is trimmed sooner (48,000 tokens against 2,00,000 on Max), so very large repositories need more re-orientation.
Community support
Email support starts at the Starter tier.
If the ceiling is the only thing in your way, the paid tiers start at ₹399 a month — see pricing, or how that compares with everything else on the cheapest AI coding agent.
Free coding agent — questions people actually ask
Is Htvag Agent's free plan a real agent or a limited demo?
It is the complete agent. On the free plan it reads your repository, edits real files, runs shell commands, and executes your build and test suite — exactly as it does on paid plans. The free plan limits throughput (5 credits per day, up to 20 with ads) and shows ads in the app. No feature is switched off.
Do I need a credit card to use the free coding agent?
No. You create an account with an email address and start working. There is no card on file, no trial countdown, and nothing charges automatically when the free allowance runs out — the agent simply pauses until the next daily reset.
How much work does one free credit actually cover?
One credit is about 10,000 tokens of work. In practice a small bug fix, a focused refactor of one file, or a short review often costs a fraction of a credit; a feature touching several files with a build-and-fix loop will use a few. The free plan is enough for daily small tasks, not for eight hours of continuous multi-file work.
How do I get more free credits?
Two ways, both free. Watching ads inside the app earns up to 15 extra credits per day on top of the daily grant. Signing up through a creator's referral link starts your free account at 10 credits per day instead of 5.
Do I need an API key or an OpenAI account?
No. Every account, free included, comes with its own daily allowance through the built-in gateway. There is no key to obtain or paste, and no model to choose.
Does the free plan send my source code anywhere?
No. The agent runs on your machine and edits files locally. Only the instruction and the specific context needed to answer it are sent for processing, and none of it is stored. This is identical on the free and paid plans.
What is the catch with a free coding agent?
Ads, and a daily ceiling. The free plan is funded by advertising shown inside the app, which is what makes a genuinely capable agent free to run. If the ads or the ceiling get in your way, the paid tiers remove both; if they do not, the free plan is yours indefinitely.
Start on the free plan
An email address is the whole signup. If it earns a place in your workflow, upgrade; if it does not, nothing charges.
